Holistic Healing

In 1903 Thomas Edison said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Edison was way ahead of his time, but over a century later, you can see more of this thinking popping up in modern medicine and it aligns with Live Free’s ethos. However, if Edison was alive today, what would he say the doctor of the future would do? How would he say to take care of the human frame? Today we know the body works as one system with all the parts interacting and having an effect on one another.

In this way, we believe the doctor of the future will take a holistic approach to treat the patient as a whole being rather than separating different biological systems without taking into account how they affect all other systems of the body. This is why we strive to bring you optimal health by addressing the physical, chemical, and emotional aspects of the body to get to the root of the problem and how the body is functioning as a whole, not just the symptom. Our vision is to have our patients LIVE FREE, not dependent.

“The part can never be well unless the whole is well.” - Plato

As the most complex living organism in the world, the human body is made up of several systems all interacting and functioning together to make our bodies move and survive.

Physical

The physical components of the body are our bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and they work together to propel and move our bodies or halt us in our tracks with pain. Physical components can usually be treated with several different types of bodywork, strategic movements or corrective exercises.

But what if the problem with the physical component is stemming from a different system? We all feel that tension in our neck and shoulders after a really stressful day, or have body aches after consuming too much of something that does not agree with our body. If you attack physical pain with only physical treatments, all your earnest efforts will not yield the best results; we need to change the environment where the problem originated and bring the physical system into harmony with the rest of the body.

Chemical

The chemical components are how well our metabolism and digestive track break down nutrients, and determines if the body has any toxicities, nutrient deficiencies, allergies, infections, metals, or imbalances in hormones. Issues with the chemical system can usually be treated with strategic diet interventions, supplementation, and essential oils.

These interventions can be greatly enhanced if we bring them into harmony with all your other body systems. Diet changes are much easier to implement if we understand our emotional relationship with food. Movement can play an even bigger role in affecting this chemical system. Varying movement strategies can aid in nutrient breakdown and help direct where nutrients are distributed to the body; muscle movement is the pumping mechanism for our lymphatic system and can strengthen our immune systems to help clear toxicities and infections that may be present; and movement can be one of the most influential strategies for changes in our hormones from increasing testosterone to regulating insulin response, and much more.

Emotional

The emotional components of the body revolve around mental stress, regulations of neurotransmitters in our brains, and traumas being stuck in our nervous system. These emotional components are usually treated with mindfulness, counseling, emotional therapy techniques, supplements, and medications.

Once again, this system does not work independently but synergistically with both the chemical and physical systems. Dietary changes affecting our chemical system will also have effects on our neurotransmitter levels, gut/immune system and directly affect our resiliency to handling stress. Movement and exercise have long been the most effective, yet least utilized intervention for mental stress, depression, and improving neurotransmitter levels by releasing the positive neurotransmitters of dopamine and serotonin. Research has also shown that movement and exercise drastically increase the effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions for Parkinson's, depression, and other ailments. Movement patterns are the scaffolding on which cognition is built. This effect of improved brain function can lead to improvements in learning, memory, and stress management.

“Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.” - Hippocrates

This is the foundation for what we do at Live Free. We aim to equip you with tools to activate the natural healing forces within your body by bringing harmony to the physical, chemical, and emotional aspects of the body. Movement is the bridge that connects these three systems. Proper movement brings balance to all interventions. We strive to treat the whole person—not just their symptoms—and empower them to take back their health and well-being! Once we eat well, love well, and move well, we can finally LIVE FREE
