Nourish the Soil and Your Soul
What is a garden without the soil? You can give a seed all the water and sunshine it could possibly want, but without a nourished soil, it will never thrive. The soil needs to be tilled and properly nourished to supply nutrients to the seed. The soil is the essence of the garden. Our soul, much like the garden’s soil, needs to be dug into, in order to better align ourselves with our true desires. We must pursue our passions in order to nourish our souls, so it can feed us positive energy. Our soul is the inherent essence of who we are.
Our soul is at the root of who we are, it is deep within us beyond our ego and conscious thinking. It is where we store our passions and greatest aspirations. It is where we derive our intuition and what drives our instincts. A nourished soul will spark creativity and positive emotions; it will help you live more connected with yourself and your sense of purpose.
A lot of times though, we leave the soul unnourished. Nourishing our soul by pursuing our passions and taking time in those things that recharge us can seem imposing, selfish or a luxury. We disconnect; and like focusing on only the water and sunshine, if we leave our soul unnourished, we cannot thrive. We become malcontent, life becomes unsatisfying, and we feel unstable. Once we are disconnected from our soul’s desire, we are susceptible to trying to find stability in fruitless pursuits – mindless entertainment, palatable, but toxic food and unhealthy relationships.
Luckily, nourishing our soul does not have to be that complicated. The seed thrives in the perfect harmony of soil, sun and water; so small changes can go a long way to feeding your soul. Like any relationship, our connection with our soul grows as we tend to it, return to its pursuits, and remember to feed it. We can do this by digging in and finding what are you really longing for, finding those things that make you laugh like a little kid again, those activities that make you feel charged and vibrant. You then feed your soul by spending more time in those activities and pursuits.
In times of good and bad, health or sickness we must nourish our soul. A master farmer knows to never stop minding their soil, even in times of abundance when things are flourishing. The farmer knows for his crops to thrive year after year the soil must stay fully nourished. What nourishes the soul will be different for every individual. It may be spending time out in nature, reading a book, playing with our kids, going to the beach, being in the mountains or moving our bodies for pure fun and not some punishment for the number of calories we ate. Whatever it is, we want to set up our lives so we can spend more time in these actions.
What is the activity that nourishes your soul? When are those times you feel pure joy in your life? Let’s dig into those and spend more time pursuing them, so it constantly feeds us positive energy. Let’s keep our soul in harmony with the rest of our health, so we can be connected and LIVE FREE.
